Do Lo Res

The Do Lo Res sofa by Ron Arad conjures up many a visual imagery. At first glance the soft rectangular shapes that make up the design remind me of a city skyline, yet the name, reminiscent of “do re me” draws me to thinking of the digital display of music tempo. I like to think of the random pink cube as a note out of tune from the general melody. Perhaps this is what Arad intended though as the inspiration came from the arts, design, technology and the virtual world.

Each rectangular unit of the sofa is fixed to the platform with steel pins and vary in height from 27.5cm to 83cm.

Flare

If you thought that flares were for people (decade not important), well I have news for you; Flares are for furniture too!

Designed by Marcel Wanders for Magis, Flare, is certainly appropriately named. Made from injection-moulded polycarbonate and polymeric covered MDF, the legs are actually fully customisable with either your own design or a choice of patterns by Marcel Wanders and Javier Mariscal.

Once again, the humble table has been given a new Flare of life by the magicians of Magis.

Torni Wash Basin

The Torni Wash Basin is part of a stunning collection of bathroom furniture from DURAT, the Torni being my personal favourite. The distinctive yet simplistic styling and the fantastic array of exuberant colours that lend the collection a youthful optimism are not the only stand out features. Each piece is made from DURAT, a solid polyester based material that contains recycled plastics, that in turn are fully recyclable.

The material is also available to designers and architects for their own projects.

Designed by Arup/Mick Brundle, the freestanding Torni comes in two sizes, standard and mini, with all the waste and overflow components included.

Now you can be assured that keeping yourself clean also helps our planet keep clean too.

Max

Antonio Citterio's "Max" sofa design sits soft padded curves on a slim Frame in chromed or satined metal. Its two tone back is reminiscent of a classic barbers pole or candy cane given a curvaceous slightly surrealist twist.
